GTA 6 Robbery System: How Heists & Store Robberies Work
GTA V let you hold up the same convenience store a hundred times. GTA 6 rebuilds the entire loop from a five-second gas station job to a full compound heist.
Last updated
GTA 6 replaces GTA V's scripted, one-off heists with a persistent robbery system players can trigger anywhere in the open world. Every store can be robbed, with mechanics that change depending on what you're hitting — CCTV, hostages, and safes all factor in — and the whole system scales across five tiers, from a quick phone-shop grab to a full compound heist.
FIVE TIERS
From Local Stores to Full Compounds
Local Stores
Small, low-level spots like phone repair shops and convenience stores. A couple thousand dollars at most, and not marked on the map as an opportunity.
Jewelry Stores & Mini Heists
More planning, more payout. This is where the Eagle Eye scanning tool starts to matter for finding hidden value.
Banks & Compounds
The top end of the scale: bigger rewards, bigger risk, and the kind of job that needs real preparation to pull off cleanly.
The Eagle Eye System
Borrowing a page from Red Dead Redemption's Dead Eye, GTA 6's Eagle Eye lets players scan a shop outside of combat to mark high-value jewelry, hidden safes, and security cameras before committing to a robbery. It turns "walk in and start grabbing" into an actual planning step — know where the cameras are before you're standing in front of one.
Safe-Cracking: Speed vs. Payout
When a job includes a safe, players get a real choice: blow it open fast, which damages some of the valuables inside and lowers the total payout, or take the time to find the actual combination for a full haul. The catch is time itself — staying on-site longer raises the odds police arrive and surround the building before you're out. Store robberies also let players use zip ties to restrain resisting hostages, and factor in whether a location has working CCTV. For what happens once things go loud, see the wanted level guide. Robberies were part of what Rockstar showed in An Extended Look.

Yes. Every store in the game can be robbed, and unlike GTA V's generic convenience-store holdups, different store types have unique mechanics depending on what's being robbed.
A scanning mode similar to Dead Eye in Red Dead Redemption, letting players scan shops outside of combat to mark high-value jewelry, hidden safes, and security cameras.
Players choose between blowing a safe open fast, which damages some valuables and lowers the payout, or spending extra time finding the combination for a full haul while risking police arriving.
Five tiers of scaling complexity and reward: mini heists, local stores, jewelry stores, banks, and full compounds. Local stores are quick, low-reward jobs; compounds are the other end of the scale.
Not automatically. Per the rebuilt wanted system, a crime needs a witness or a tripped alarm before police respond, which changes how you plan a robbery in the first place.
